Introducing 10 on 10

By Sarah March 10, 2014

I first discovered Rebekah Gough’s blog, A Bit of Sunshine, three years ago when my son was still a small baby. It was one of the first blogs that I began following. I was blown away by her amazing photography and neat crafting ideas. She has a monthly feature called 10 on 10 in which she takes one photo each hour for 10 hours on the 10th of the month. It’s a simple yet brilliant way to slow yourself down and notice the beauty in everyday life. So often we just pull out our cameras for holidays and special events, but why not document the ordinary?

The project started in 2008 after the birth of her second child.

On her blog, Rebekah says:

[O]ut of desperation to combat a horrible bought of postpartum depression I longed for a project to help me find beauty and joy even when my world was so exhausting and hard with two little ones running around. The project has since grown to be a fun and interactive way for bloggers from all around the globe to document a snap shot of their lives too.

I was so inspired by Rebekah, I started my own little blog, which led to me writing for this blog. And while I’ve tried to maintain my own personal blog, I just don’t have the time anymore. Last month, I took the photos during our rainy drive to Baton Rouge, but never posted them and I sadly decided I wouldn’t continue the monthly tradition. But then I thought– maybe I should share here!

So here’s our day in 10 shots. I hope this idea inspires you to savor the wonderful moments in what you think might be a forgettable, mundane day. We all know that famous quote: “Parenting is made up of long days and short years.” Believe me, I know the hours can sometimes feel long too. It’s up to us to be mindful about how we experience it.

I’m so excited for the changing season and all the new things that are starting. My son started soccer this morning; my daughter is pulling up all the time. How can they be getting so big so fast! And I’ve been waiting for the time change. I just love the extra light in the evening. Thanks for stopping by!
